Umi Plus Battery Replacement, Part 2

It's been about a month and a half since I disassembled my Umi/UmiDigi Plus E and I'm so glad that I wrote down where I removed each and every screw! The new battery arrived yesterday, after a loooot of confusion, misdirected packages, and incorrect tracking numbers! But all's well that ends well.

So, today I opened the small air cushion envelope (is that the right word?) and inside I found - surprise, surprise - the correct battery! So I went looking for the disassembled parts of my phone and found them at once. It might not look that way but there is a certain order to my office. Most of the piles in here should be labeled "to do, urgent"! ;-)

Fitting the new battery inside the case was not so easy, because the flat cable coming from it was off by about a fraction of a millimetre and those clip-on connectors are somewhat delicate, so I didn't want to push too hard. In the end I was able to connect it all the same; a quick power-on test ended with me shorting out something on the backside of the circuit board with my fingers, crashing the phone. So instead I opted for fitting the plastic shield first - four short screws in each corner, one slightly longer screw in the middle at the bottom - and then finding the charger and connecting it to the phone that was lying flat on it's back on my table. Lo and behold: It came alive immediately!

After that it was simply the matter of putting all the screws back in the right place: Two short screws at the top left & right, one medium screw with washer at the top centre/left, three longest screws at the bottom! Surprisingly only one piece was left over in the end: Some plastic clip that had sheered off when I disassembled the thing. Or maybe it was broken by the old, bulging battery. Who knows.

After powering the phone on I was greeted with about a hundred apps that needed updating. That's quite a lot, I think! It's been only two months since this thing was last powered off and I always keep my apps up to date. Other than that I'm quite surprised I managed to replace the battery so easily. It probably wasn't even worth a second article! ;-)
